Breast implants take several months or more to “drop and settle” into a pleasing and natural-looking teardrop shape. I use all types of implants for my patients, depending on their anatomy, preferences, and desired results. Generally speaking, I prefer round implants over shaped implants for several reasons: 1️⃣ when upright, a round implant actually assumes a teardrop shape, 2️⃣ teardrop implants have a risk of radial rotation, which can cause asymmetry in results, 3️⃣ teardrop implants are typically textured, which is associated with higher risk of seroma and ALCL, and 4️⃣ recent research suggests that the difference between round and teardrop shaped implants is not easily perceived.
